NFGS Annual Mice for 2016

By Sharon Fenner

Once again the NFGS is offering two annual mice.  First is the Green Topaz which is available for $31.  Next is the Orange Slice Satinized mouse available for $25.  These are available only to members renewing for the 2016 membership year, limited to one of each per household (Primary member), on a first come, first serve basis.   Quantities are limited - renew early to ensure receiving your 2015 annual mice.  Renewals will be accepted immediately.

Please note:  In the Dues Renewal article in the November/December 2015 issue of The Fenton Flyer it states one of the new mice for 2016 is Topaz Opalescent.  It was learned, after The Flyer was at the printer, there was difficulty producing the mouse in Topaz.  It was coming out more of a green color.  This is due to the fact that this glass color is typically produced using gas, not electricity, therefore the oxygen level couldn't be adjusted.  We think we have a desirable color to offer - one that has never been made, and can never be reproduced.  This only adds to the rarity of our Green Topaz mouse for 2016!!  Quantities are very limited!!  Add this little gem to your collection!

Holiday Glass - A Few Still Available

By Sharon Fenner

Again this year, we are thrilled to be able to offer off-hand snowmen made by Fenton Master Craftsman Dave Fetty, and designed and hand-painted by former Fenton designer CC Hardman. The “traditional” snowman(right) has a stovepipe hat with a green band that coordinates with his scarf. A dapper dude, with a huge smile, carrot nose, and a pair of ear muffs! Our “natural” snowman(left) has a family of owls, and the sweetest face. They are made with Crystal glass rolled in white frit, which gives them an interesting look. They have applied top hats, are stamped with Dave Fetty's Fenton Collectibles stamp, plus they have been satinized which gives them a “new” look. Plus, Mr. Fetty signed each snowman!!  We had only 22 available of each design, and at this time, the quantities are very limited.  They are only $110.00 each, and the perfect winter accent.

Now for something new and different we have a Cobalt Hugging Santa in by former Fenton Gift Shop Artist Susan Bryan. Susan has highlighted Santa's beard and the fur on his jacket, plus his facial features. This design will fit in with your Canaan Valley collection.  We have a very limited number remaining.  They are only $70.00 each, and a great winter accent.

Thank You!

In the days surrounding the Spring and Fall Board of Directors meetings, numerous Board members and NFGS members joined together in Operation Organization, plus taking inventory.  Shelving units were purchased, disassembled, reassembled, and filled with boxes of glass for future offerings.  About a "bakers dozen" members were involved in this overwhelming task.  A few more steps need to be taken to get this to completion, but we are well on our way.

A Rock 'N Roll News Flash!!

By Charlie Lyngaas

No, there hasn't been an Elvis Presley sighting in Williamstown, West Virginia.  The John Barton Company was recently awarded a licensing agreement with Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. for Fenton jewelry.

Fenton designer and decorator, Kim Barley, an Elvis fan, has designed jewelry with Elvis Presley and Rock 'n Roll themes, and will continue to create more.

Tales From Kriner's Korner

By Carolyn Kriner

The author explains what a collector can do with Fenton parts, a creative mind, and a "lamp genie".

She states, "it hangs over my sink, by the kitchen window, and is a perfect ships lantern and stunning compliment to beautiful surroundings here on the shores of Lake Erie".

(Author's note:  This bimonthly column will showcase a single piece of one-of-a-kind or unusual Fenton that has been found in the Williamstown/Marietta area.)

This Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail pitcher measures 4 5/8" tall, 3 1/2" across the base, and 4 1/2" across the top opening.  It was made from the #3965 squat jug....just squatter!

Left:  Crystal satin etched San Toy pattern, 14", two-part relish tray.

Center row:  #184-12" vase in Crystal with wheel-cut grape and vine cutting with etched leaves.  The bottom is satinized.

Bottom left:  Two different white carnival glass Floral and Grape pattern tumblers from Frank's Closet.  Attribution is a bit murky.

Bottom right:  Early white carnival pitcher and tumbler with an enameled floral decoration.  Some dealers call this decoration Lotus, and Crocus is used to describe the tumblers, but this decoration clearly depicts a Magnolia blossom.

A Loving Tribute to Peg Zeigler

By Millie Coty

Peggy Ann Zeigler, long-time resident of Belpre, Ohio, passed away October 15, 2015, at the age of 84.  Peg, and her husband Richard S. "Dick" Zeigler, were the primary forces behind the formation of the NFGS in 1990, holding charter memberships # 2 and #1, respectively.  She was active in the local glass club, and Fenton's Burmese was among her favorites.

She provided baked goodies and worked the NFGS Hospitality Room, did table displays, and was a hostess at the NFGS February gatherings.

She and Dick owned and operated Peggy Ann-Tiques outside of Macksburg, Ohio.

She was the proud mother of three daughters, plus seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Fenton Gem

By Doug McIntosh

One of the recent offerings of the Fenton Gift Shop was this limited edition  amphora, worthy of being a 'Fenton Gem'.  The design is 'Peace Rose', by Frances Burton,  on a 12" Opal amphora blown at Davis Lynch.  One of three produced, this makes it a rare gem!
